Intracranial vascular stenosis treatment: Evidences in neurointerventional management

چکیده
Following these results, surgery was consequently avoided for this disease. The development of new technics, endovascular devices for superselective brain approaches, endovascular experience obtained in cerebral aneurysms and AVM ́s management, helped to develop a new approach in stroke treatment and stroke prevention. Cardiologist’ s experience with coronary illnesses helped to carry out similar experiments with cerebrovascular disease.

Vessel wall imaging for intracranial vascular disease evaluation.
Accurate and timely diagnosis of intracranial vasculopathies is important owing to the significant risk of morbidity with delayed and/or incorrect diagnosis both from the disease process and inappropriate therapies. Conventional luminal imaging techniques for analysis of intracranial vasculopathies are limited to evaluation of changes in the vessel lumen. Vessel wall MRI techniques can allow di...
متن کاملA randomized trial comparing primary angioplasty versus stent placement for symptomatic intracranial stenosis.
BACKGROUND Both primary angioplasty alone and angioplasty with a self-expanding stent have been compared in non-randomized concurrent clinical studies that suggest equivalent results. However, there is no randomized trial that has compared the two procedures in patients with symptomatic high grade intracranial stenosis. OBJECTIVE The primary aim of the randomized trial was to compare the clin...
متن کاملHemorrhagic complications after prasugrel (Effient) therapy for vascular neurointerventional procedures
INTRODUCTION Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with aspirin and a thienopyridine (eg, clopidogrel) prevents stent related thromboembolic events in cardiac patients and is frequently utilized during neurointerventional surgery. However, recent data suggest that many patients exhibit clopidogrel resistance. Prasugrel-a newer thienopyridine-lowers the rate of cardiac stent thromboses in clopidogrel...
متن کاملCost-effectiveness analysis of intracranial stent placement versus contemporary medical management in patients with symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis.
BACKGROUND Intracranial angioplasty and stent placement has been increasingly evaluated as a new method for treatment of symptomatic intracranial stenosis in select patients. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved intracranial stent treatment of symptomatic atherosclerotic intracranial lesions. PURPOSE To determine the cost-effectiveness of intracranial artery stent placement com...
متن کاملCerebral revascularization for ischemic disease in the 21st century.
Shortly after the first extracranial to intracranial (EC-IC) carotid artery bypass was performed by Yasargil in 1967 for internal carotid artery occlusion, cerebral revascularization became widely accepted in the neurosurgical field, and the procedures became increasingly used as practitioners began to master the technical aspects of the surgery. The procedures were performed for intracranial a...
